Clean-Up
In the spring of 2010, the GCCDS began teaching students from Biloxi elementary schools about the unique bayou ecosystems that run through their neighborhoods. The GCCDS assembled a field guide of local plants and animals and took students from the Nichols Elementary after school program, Learning Lighthouse, on a field trip to Bayou Auguste.
Volunteers from the first clean-up day had their hands full removing items from the bayou like shopping carts and bicycles.
Volunteers cleared a trail through the uplands along the bayou and in the process removed a dumpster full of debris and invasive plant species.
