Hope Center

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, a group of non-profits came together to rebuild the Mississippi Gulf Coast. In low-income, racially diverse East Biloxi, the Hope Community Development Agency (Hope CDA, formally known as EBCRRA) leads the way, and groups like the GCCDS and Women in Construction work closely with them. Together, they have repaired or rebuilt over 300 individual homes. The Gulf Coast Community Design Studio led the renovation of a former church and rectory to house the group of organizations. The building, the relationships, and process are explained below.
