Opening afternoon for "Moss Point @ Play"

Traveling exhibition of "Moss Point @ Play" at the River City Festival

The featured installations were three interactive boards, featuring images of possible nature-leisure-recreation combinations around the city of Moss Point. On the back of these spinning panels were facts and images about moss point parks. These panels greeted everyone entering the building for several months, from voters, to judo class, to girl scouts.

Moss Point @ Play Exhibit and Workshop

The third exhibit in the Gulf Coast Community Design Studio's NEA work centered around Moss Point and its parks. Through a series of workshops and installation the community was encouraged to think of their parks, not just in terms of location and amenities, but in terms of how they better their communities and daily activities .

The GCCDS focused on the idea of Nature, Leisure and Recreation as being key aspects found in the Moss Point park system. Each feature happens in multiple location, often overlapping. We tried to show how uses could overlap and the character of a park could be seen in several different ways. Each provocative way of seeing a park could enrich the current uses. For example, how could a baseball field become a place for nature? Or, is it possible to make a boat landing a relaxing leisurely place?

Much of the work produced through out the workshops was put on display in the entry court of the community recreation building. Below are digital versions of the installation pieces made for the exhibit. On the back of each panel was a picture of park or a fact about recreation in the city.

One workshop focused on bring these ideas into the existing park space in an playful and fantastical way. These serialized images were projected onto the front facade of the library in a display that slowly merged one image into the next giving the impression that they activies were appearing in the landscape.
